We are ALL IN for the Fight for Equity and Justice.
Founded in 1969 as Businessmen for the Public Interest (later renamed Business People and Professionals for the Public Interest) or BPI, our original vision was to bring together business and civic leaders who would take a stand for the public interest against all manner of racism, segregation, and inequity in Chicago and Illinois.
More than fifty years later, we have grown from a small, upstart public interest law firm to one of Chicago’s most respected law and policy centers, driving statewide changes across Illinois as we pursue racial, economic, and social justice.
The fight for equity has always been at the heart of our work.

Using a well-practiced combination of legal tools, policy research, advocacy, partnerships, and public awareness, we lead and support efforts to dismantle systems of injustice and replace them with structures that empower communities. We hold institutions of power accountable for fair and equitable treatment in housing and the criminal legal system.

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.
– Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
