Sharpening Illinois’ tools to create affordable housing across the state

Many communities in Chicago and throughout Illinois lack affordable rental or homeownership opportunities. In some cases, exclusionary zoning and other legal, procedural, or social barriers prevent new affordable housing development in Illinois’s most affluent communities. Tools like the state Affordable Housing Planning and Appeal Act offer both support and accountability for local communities to affirmatively plan for an affordable, equitable housing stock. Impact for Equity works to maximize the effectiveness of AHPAA to help municipalities expand affordability while addressing the legacy of housing discrimination, and build stronger, more inclusive communities.
