Fighting for fair housing in Chicago
Our lawyers participate in working groups shaping mixed-income communities across Chicago and advocate for the implementation of the Gautreaux settlement agreement, which provides for long-overdue remedies for public housing residents across Chicago. An amended settlement agreement, entered in August 2024, covers five mixed-income communities slated for redevelopment under the CHA’s Plan for Transformation and includes required benchmarks for site planning and binding written agreements to complete promised redevelopments. It also requires amenity planning at a sixth site, Altgeld Gardens. Impact for Equity monitors the CHA’s progress with the goals of the agreement and ensures the continued development of mixed-income communities.
