Impact for Equity stands firmly against ongoing federal intervention in Chicagoland and throughout Illinois. The escalating threat of National Guard deployment and the influx of federal immigration agents in our communities is causing irreparable harm, particularly to our Latine, Black, and migrant neighbors. We are watching families being separated; protestors risking physical harm simply for exercising their First Amendment rights; and individuals afraid to move around their communities for fear of being harassed and detained. These actions not only deteriorate trust in law enforcement and the rule of law; they also make our communities less safe.
Impact for Equity has long advocated for Illinoisians to have the power to hold local law enforcement accountable and shape public safety that works for their communities. We have pushed for policies that strengthen constitutional protections and end the use of racially disparate traffic stops by police officers. The recent actions taken by federal agents directly contradict reforms Impact for Equity has long supported.
We cannot afford to lose ground as a result of these unwarranted actions. We must expand evidence-based, community-led solutions to public safety and strengthen systems designed to hold law enforcement accountable. Impact for Equity will continue to collaborate with advocates, community members, and government stakeholders to monitor misconduct, adapt to meet the moment, and fiercely advocate for justice and equity.
In solidarity,
Impact For Equity
