Policy Strategist, Criminal Legal System
Joi serves as Policy Strategist at Impact for Equity. Her work includes cultivating relationships and strategies to develop, design, and implement policy solutions and programs that combat systemic barriers to equity and fight for justice. She is a visionary activist committed to dismantling systems of racism and white supremacy to liberate marginalized communities.
Before joining Impact for Equity, Joi served as the Deputy Director of the Workers Center for Racial Justice, where she used grassroots power-building and movement strategy to implement policies around criminal justice reform. She has also held roles as Legislative Director for Illinois State Representative Sonya Harper and with Amnesty International and the office of U.S. Representative Bobby Rush.
Joi has a master’s degree in Political Science and a B.A. from Western Illinois.
