Martin Cozzola

Marty serves as a Staff Attorney on Impact for Equity’s Housing team. Marty focuses on removing barriers and promoting housing choice across the Chicago region, including for families living in or seeking subsidized or other affordable housing. He has led Impact for Equity’s work to expand the availability of affordable housing in the Chicago region, including participation in coalition to amend the Illinois Affordable Housing Planning and Appeals Act. 

Prior to joining Impact for Equity, Marty was an Attorney at Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, where he represented countless low-income clients throughout Cook County, including families facing homelessness due to foreclosure, the death of a loved one, or the loss of a Housing Choice Voucher.   Marty was also Supervising Attorney for CVLS’ portion of both the Illinois Armed Forces Legal Aid Network (IL-AFLAN) and the Early Resolution Program (ERP), an initiative designed to level the playing field in Cook County’s eviction courts.  

Marty holds a JD from Indiana University Maurer School of Law, a BA from the University of Michigan, and is an alumnus of the AmeriCorps VISTA Program. He is active in both Chicago’s legal aid community and his own neighborhood. He has served as Chair of the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) ‘s Alumni Network Leadership Council and a community representative for the Local School Council at Frederick Funston Elementary School in Logan Square. In 2020, Marty received the Kimball R. Anderson & Karen Gatsis Anderson Public Interest Law Fellowship from the Chicago Bar Foundation, and in 2024 he received PILI’s Alumni Award.
